Great song, and fantastic video to match. The whole thing looks like an old tinted postcard. I get really tired of seeing super slick, CG, Maya video stuff that moves so quickly you can't actually really see it. I love all the intentional flaws in this, I imagine special effects lovers would hate it. I think it's perfect. Check out Sam Mason's other movie on Vimeo, its excellent.

This picture is from way back in the mid 90's. It was one of my first pics for Ray Gun magazine. The image was for the Sound in Print section of the magazine. Artist's, illustrators, photographers were invited to contribute an image based on music they liked. I chose Panic Pure by Vic Chesnutt, I was ( am still ) a big fan of his music. If you like good song writing (that is a little odd, dark, and funny ) you will like Vic Chesnutt.

The song is from his second album, West of Rome, it's a great record...still one of my favorites.

My illustration isn't that good, I wrote the lyrics on the picture because they were better than any art I could make..

Vic Chesnutt died this past December.

The Cover lettering and scratchy hand written text inside the CD inspired me to do my own hand lettering on other projects...The American Illustration book, a CD cover for The Cowboy Junkies....and more.

I bought a Japanese tin toy bullet train just like this one at a flea market on the weekend. It only cost me 20 dollars. You can buy the one pictured above for 300 dollars on Ebay. I love finding good junk at low prices.

From Neil young's early 80's Rockabilly album. I think it got terrible reviews when it came out, but I think this song is great, and the video is even better. The choppy stop motion-like edits are nice. The You Tube video quality stinks.

Panorama Show / Another Freakin' Building

Jordin Isip Invited me to participate in the Panorama Show at
the Johnathan Levine Gallery. All the artists were given a 5x7
panel of wood to create a picture. The only requirement was that
a horizontal line 1.75 inches from the bottom had to be a part of the art.
All the art is then lined up end to end.
Since the show was at a gallery in New York, I decided to
paint a New York gallery. I'm trying to become the Thomas Kinkade
of cinder block buildings.

James Howard Kunstler

James Howard Kunstler is great to listen to. I first saw him in the documentary "The End of Suburbia" Even if you think his ideas on peak oil are a little extreme, he's very funny to listen to.

He has a very good weekly podcast in which he talks for twenty minutes on a specific subject, you can find it here

For the New York Times over the weekend. For a story about the Tony award nominees sharing a feel good quality, taking tough topics and giving them an easy to swallow/made for TV feel. I really wanted to avoid doing a visual that plays off all the usual Broadway cliches, curtains, lights, stages...etc....I took some of the writers words, and turned it into a soothing ointment.

Chenard Walker a friend of the online music world, is slowly recovering from a diabetic coma. His brother reports that he is not physically suffering. He fell into the coma in September, and is now working on speech development and object differentiation( 2006 )

I first heard this on WFMU, it's pretty funny, and clever ( to me anyway) I thought it was a comedian, but I searched around on the WFMU blog and found this info.

In the 1970s, Jim Roche, a performance artist from the deep South, made his way into the New York artworld and began doing pieces in galleries where he'd go into a trance-like state and channel redneck characters from his home turf. The result was this 2 LP set, "Learning to Count," released in 1982 by a museum in Kansas. These are the most intense audio works ever put to vinyl: insane rants, heavily racist, sexist.

This one has some swearing on it, but nothing racist or sexist.
You can download all the tracks on the WFMU site.
This is the only one I have ever listened to. Considering the above info, I really don't need to listen to the others, but this one is funny and odd.
